The following tables giving the repartition of the Freshwater Fishes of Africa is based on the data of the CLOFFA and of the next ichthyological publications up to December 1996.
The division of Africa in 17 freshwater ichthyological zones (see map) agrees, more or less, with the views of M. Poll 1973, T. Roberts 1975, and P. H. Greenwood 1983.
These zones are:
